My spiritual journey has caused me to have blended spiritual path. I will elaborate more on the other aspects later, right now here is my earth based path as a Hedge witch
A hedge witch is very much a free spirit. Hedge witches are also related to the village witches of old. The term, hedge witch, 'comes from the fact that your average European village, in time gone by, was surrounded by a hedge or woods. Beyond that hedge was unknown land, beyond their known perception... i.e. the Other World. The village witches of this era usually lived just beyond or just before this hedge. The hedge was a metaphor for some one who practiced shamanic arts, a walker between the worlds.
This term didn't mean just that though. It also denoted that said witch was an herb worker, a healer, because they spent much time in the hedge looking for the herbs necessary to heal or enchant. So now you know where the term came from, but what dose a hedge witch do?" words by Mossfaeri Autumnmyst.
The hedge witch was not one who hides or flies over hedges, or like the water and fire witches one that is interested or have a belief around an element.
A hedge witch is a lone witch, who is not part of a group or coven, but also most often one who is more into the green arts, herbal cures and spells.
Historically they would most often have been the local wise man or wise woman. Many today still are, helping those who they know with wisdom, cures, advice and tips to solve most problems that come up, from removing gum from clothing to what to do if you think that one night stand has resulted in a pregnancy. Hedge witches, can be of any religion, frequently were Christians and many still are, could be a Wiccan, but rarely are. This here hints to my other half of my blended path.
A hedge witch would have learned their craft by word of mouth or nowaday through books and Internet. And by personal experience within nature , via Mother Earth herself, and by personal observations with in the rhythm of Great Spirit Mother/Father's Creation. They celebrate the sabbats not by Myths or folk lore, but by the change of the seasons and not by mans made up calendar, but by the natural calendar of the Moon as Grandmother waxes and wanes, And the seasons of Earth Mother as she dances with Father Sun in their yearly waltz.
Hedge witches all view the divine differently, as do all people of all walks and paths . Personally I worship the Divine Great Spirit as a Unity of Mother/Father in union with each other. Hedge witches are shamans, healers, and, priest/esses, and Mystics. A person who studies and practices the Great Mysteries of the natural world around her. This aspect of the craft is highly eclectic because it is in-dependant on how it is practiced. Most hedge witches, my self included, are very ethical ,most Hedge witches do not follow any one Rede as Wiccans do. I personally follow 'do unto others as you would have them do unto you', 'what is sent is returned' and 'harm none do what you will'.
Hedge witchery magick is all around her and specifically in the more "mundane" aspect of life it is not a separate aspect but is expressed in all that she does, "Life is magick, and magick is life". She lives her life as simply and as practical as she can, waste not want not, she is not 'into' the razzle dazzle , or highly ritualistic ceremony of the modern Wicca, but her life's connection is to the natural forces and raw energies that she sees and feels in the world around and within her .She utilizes the gifts and energies of Mother Earth, such as herbs, crystals, rocks, trees, and any thing of natural origins to work with ,in her day to day magicks, and healing.
